Sketch for Chai of a Driven Leaf 2

Milton Steinberg's 1939 historical fiction set in a post Temple Holy Land, "As a Driven Leaf" explores Hellenization, faith, reason, logic, truth, favor, G-d's validity and G-d's promises. The main character has devastating "when bad things happen to good people" moments and his faith is dampened and finally discarded (read: trauma). As he dies, broken and alone, he sees that he missed a good deal: humanity is precious. We make the offering that we are. His heart had failed to make the leap.
